The story about Ricky Rubio (192-G-90) finally ended. As it was expected, Regal Barcelona and DKV Joventut made an agreement and the player was delighted to sign 6-year deal with the reigning Spanish champion. As a reminder, the 18-year old point guard was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves as fifth overall pick at the this year's NBA Draft. However, big buy-out fee which DKV Joventut set for the player was a problem for his move to the NBA. Regal Barca was ready to pay and to grab the great Spanish prospect. According to some unofficial sources, Barca paid a buyout of 3.7 million Euros to DKV Joventut, while Ricky Rubio signed a six-year agreement that contains an affordable buyout in 2011.
Ricky Rubio started basketball career in DKV Joventut and stayed there until yesterday. Last season he appeared 25 times in ACB averaging 9.8 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 5.8 apg and 2.2 spg. In Euroleague he added 2.4 ppg, 2.4 rpg and 2.8 apg for 5 games.
In 2008, Ricky Rubio was named 'Eurobasket.com All-Europe Honorable Mention 2008'. He earned this award because he helped his team to win ULEB Cup as well as 'Copa del Rey'. In both contests he was one of DKV Joventut's best players. With winning the ULEB Cup, the team earned a spot for Euroleague 2008/09. At the same year Rubio played for Team Spain on the Olympic Games in Beijing. For 8 games he averaged 4.8 ppg, 4 rpg and 3 apg. In the past he played for U16 and U18 Spain on various conests. In 2006 they won the title on U16 EuroBasket in Jaen and Rubio had 23.3 ppg in 8 games. It is important to mention that in 2006 DKV Joventut was FIBA EuroCup champion.
